Let's have a look at an often overlooked printing treatment. Spot UV. Put it onto a nice matte finished business card and you've got an entire new layer of killer! It's a real subtle treatment but when done right can make your card so much nicer looking without breaking the bank. Fun to photograph too!

Check this out. Chris found the FIRST EVER set of Luice Design business cards. With die cutting and metallic red and silver metallic ink. Back in the days when those were the most pimped out options you could get this business card was on fire it was so hot.

These probably cost a pretty penny back in the 90's when Chris first started Luice Design. Now you can get these cards without having to break open the piggy bank. Of course the any custom die cutting will set you back around $200.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I…am covered in tattoos. That's not to say I just run out and get tattoos from any random idiot with the right equipment. I've only had about 4 or 5 people tattoo me in the past 10 years. It's the whole 'permanent' thing.

Recently here at Luice Design Full Color Printing we've done some business cards for a couple different artists. One who has done a lot of my work, and others who work with him. I have to say, I'm definitely considering checking these guys out.
I've posted about this before with that hot ass spot UV card with the skull girl on it and I really can't say enough about how important these business cards can be.

It's quite refreshing to see a tattoo artist with a business card that isn't the same format as all the others. Shop logo on the front with the artist's info under it and on the back side is a few pictures of tattoos they've done. It's a good concept but when you're making photos of tattoos small enough to fit onto a business card, what's the point really? You can't see any detail in the tattoo itself. It's a waste.

One card we just did was a nice full color foil process business card. One side featured all the artist and shop info in a cool font with certain parts accented with the foil and the whole back side was completely foiled out with a hand drawn self portrait of the artist as a zombie. It's killer. Before I hadn't really ever considered a tattoo from him but he's on my list to get something from. Know why? His card caught my eye! Like I've been saying for 2 months now! FLASHY AND EYE CATCHING!!!

The Anatomy of a Business Card:

There are a few things to consider when creating a business card. You want to be tasteful, but make a point, an impression, a statement. You can come up with a TON of features for your business card, but the wrong combination can be a disaster. A disaster Luice Design Full Color Printing wants to help you avoid at all cost.

When beginning the design for your card, first you want figure out what stock you want to go with. 12pt, 14pt, 16pt, metal, seed, etc. Next is the treatment you want to go with, which can be limited depending on the stock. Obviously you can't really do anything with the metal cards, but then again why would you need to?

Once you decide on the stock and treatment it's then onto the design. Do you want a photo or a flashy design, some foil stamping or just text? You've got to be sure to pick things that don't contrast each other too badly or your card will be hard to look at, or just plain ugly. If they blend together too well, no one will be able to even figure out what it says. You have to find a good middle ground. A nice font that's not 'plain' but not so intricate that it turns into a blur when it printed small enough to fit on a business card and that compliments the rest of the design.
A lot of times it's best to give your graphic designer free reign on this sort of thing. They know what they're doing and they'll take care of you.
