Ladies and gentlemen today I would like to talk to you about something that is important not only to me, but to you too. Design.
Luice Design Full Colour Printing wants to help all you graphic designers get the best printing for your designs, whether we are the ones who designed or not. You'd be amazed at how many very very talented designers out there who have sent us some great stuff to have printed in various formats. What I want to talk about today is the foil stamp. When designing something you'd like to have foil stamped you have to remember that very fine detail isn't the best idea. You have to remember that a foil stamp is literally a stamp that is pressed into the card using a metal die. Any very fine detail in your design will be lost during this process and probably not look all that good. Unfortunate but true.
If you have a design you want to be foil stamped and it's a very involved design, I'd suggest that you try the full colour printing foil process instead. It's still foil, just done in a different way. The foil is printed onto the card in the shape of your design and then the inks are printed on top of everything so anything that doesn't have foil below it will just be normal printed ink and the foil will stand out quite nicely. Finish it off with a glossy UV coating and you're all set!
Another suggestion would be to check out the full color metallic ink printing. It's not as shiny and sparkly as the foil process but it's very very cool looking. It's a little more tasteful and reserved than the full color foil process if you ask me. You can have it done in full color or as just a spot color depending on your design needs. The metallic ink is only offered with a matte finish and on nice thick 14PT or 16PT stock.
Plastic business cards? Cool. Frosted What????!!!!??

We know it’s the extras that will grab one of your potential clients’ eyes.
So, we are proud to introduce not just plastic cards, but now frosted plastic cards! What’s so great about a frosted card, or even a plastic one? Well for one thing plastic cards are unique and durable. When I say durable – I mean it! These things are tear proof and water proof. Most people pay good money for their cards and usually put them into a wallet or their purse just to have them get warped or torn from being folded and taken out. Not these cool cards. No way!
It’s not just the fact that their super durable cards. It’s that they are frosted. Why is that cool? Because with the frosting you can give a whole new artistic look to your logos or any designs that you may want to put on your cards. The frosted cards allow you to add a transparent effect to almost anything.
The frosted plastic card gives you a new and exciting appeal to your potential customers and you get your monies worth. Plus it makes the whole marketing aspect that much more fun and creative.
So what are you waiting for? Hurry up and order yours today at Luice Design Full Color Printing.
Me talking about the foil process is nothing new, but I got some good photos of a foil process card and this gives me an excuse to post one or two of them.
We got some really killer Luice Design Full Color Printing foil cards in recently that showcase some of the options really well.
I've already explained the process and all the coolness of these things so I'll just shut up now and get right to the eye candy!
I can't really talk enough about how killer these metal business cards are people. I'm dead serious. When you toss one of these bad boys down, it will LITERALLY make a noise! People will look up to see what that was, and they WILL be impressed. Mark my words!
Now, when looking into getting a card with your logo cut out, you may want to ask yourself, "Will my logo look good if I have it cut out, or will it just be a big open shape?"
This is a big one to think about. You could have a KILLER logo, but if it's not set up right it'll just be a big circle or square when cut out. Maybe it'd be better to have it laser etched, like in the photo below.
Another fun idea is to get your card etched with normal text, and have the entire card cut into a shape, like the razor blade below.
You're somewhat limited in what you can do with the metal business cards, but they're so cool on their own that you don't really need to do much with them except actually HAVE them!
…That's right! EVERYWHERE!!!
Glossy business cards, matte business cards, spot UV business cards and 12, 14 and 16 point business cards. If you leave your house, you most likely are confronted with a business card at some point. I've seen business cards that weren't even for anything. ANYONE can get a business card, which is why it's important that YOURS sticks out.
The thickness of your card is a nice inexpensive way to be sure your card makes an impression. 12 PT business cards are a thick business card that most people know about and have. It's not too thick and not too thin. Kind of plain if you ask me.
14 PT is a little thicker and feels pretty good in the hand. It's got some beef to it like "hey this is a thick business card!".
Now 16 PT business cards… THEY are beefy. A 16 PT business card is a card that gets the job done, as far as being a thick business card goes. It's super thick and feels even better in the hand than a 14 PT card.
You can get most any of the special treatments on these cards. Foil process, foil stamping, spot UV coating, FULL UV coating, one sided UV coating, rounded corners, metallic inks and silk coating. You can combine some of these as well.
We here at Luice Design came across a nice 14 PT business card with a silk coating and spot UV, all gathered around a desk, gawking at how nice it was. It was just some random example card and we were all floored by it.
When done tastefully, the combination of some treatments can create an absolutely beautiful card. Like I've said before, my favorite combination is a silk finish business card with foil stamping. It's elegant and simple, but says a lot. Don't limit yourself to just one treatment on your cards.
Remember, a first impression is the most important one.
